The Association of Building Inspection and Design (ABID) is a national professional association dedicated to advancing the practice of building inspection, investigation, and design. Through collaboration, continuing education, and professional standards, the Association supports the engineers, architects, inspectors, and building professionals responsible for protecting the integrity of the built environment.

Aaron Parks

AIA, NCARB, LEED AP

Aaron Parks earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky in 1999. He earned his Master of Science degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012.

Mr. Parks joined Waldman Engineering Consultants in 2017. Prior to joining Waldman Engineering Consultants, he owned and managed his own architecture practice for 8 years. Mr. Parks’ early career was spent building knowledge and expertise at full-service design firms in Chicago, working on a variety of large-scale projects across the U.S. and overseas.

Mr. Parks has been a licensed architect for 17 years and has been providing a wide range of professional architectural services for over 25 years. His primary areas of focus have been residential design, healthcare, high-rise buildings, and industrial building design.

Mr. Parks is a licensed architect in the States of Illinois, Wisconsin, and South Carolina, is a member of the American Institute of Architects, certified by the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards, a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional, and a Professional Affiliate Member of NABIE (National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers).

Edward G. Robinson

Robinson, P.E., is the president and owner of Professional Engineering Inspections, Inc. a Texas based building inspection firm, where he has led residential and commercial inspection services in the Houston area since 1999. He has more than three decades of experience in mechanical, electrical, and structural inspections of residential and commercial construction, including litigation support and specialized training in infrared thermography, blower door diagnostics.

 

Heidi Klein

Heidi Klein is a Forensic Engineer based out of Denver, Colorado. Heidi received her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and her Master of Civil Engineering (Structural) from Johns Hopkins University. Heidi is a licensed professional engineer in 15 states (Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming) and has qualified to provide expert testimony in forensic engineering, civil and structural engineering, building envelopes, roofing, windows/doors, and cost of repair/damages. Heidi has additional certifications as a Haag Certified Reviewer, a member of the Cal OES Safety Assessment Program, and a Certified Inspector from the Exterior Design Institute and she has served as an Advisor for the Women in Leadership Certificate Program at University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. Heidi’s experience additionally includes forensic engineering related to property claims, construction defect, premises liability, seller’s disclosure disputes, and third-party construction observations.

 

Victor G. Hare

Mr. Hare is a licensed, professional civil engineer in Maryland and Virginia. He has been President of AmeriStruct-HARE Engineering LLC, a consulting engineering business, for over 40 years. His firm provides building inspections, structural repair designs, and court expert witness testimony.

Also, Mr. Hare worked for 10 years at the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) primarily in infrastructure disaster mitigation. He worked with engineers, architects, and lawyers providing technical advice to promote more resilient repair or replacement of disaster-damaged public facilities.

Mr. Hare received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and a Master of Arts degree in Legal Studies from the University of Baltimore, Maryland.

Greg Lason

Greg Lason, PE, is a licensed Professional Engineer in Arizona, Illinois, and Michigan, specializing in building envelope evaluation, repair design, and construction consulting for multi-family, HOA, and commercial properties. With over 20 years of experience in the condominium and townhome industry, Mr. Lason is recognized for delivering practical, code-compliant solutions for complex building conditions. 
As Principal of Higher Ground Engineering, Mr. Lason focuses on the evaluation and repair design of critical exterior building systems, including balconies, elevated walkways, decks, roofing systems, façades, stucco/EIFS assemblies, and moisture intrusion issues. His work prioritizes durability, constructability, and cost-effective solutions to extend the service life of buildings while reducing long-term risk for property owners and associations.
Mr. Lason’s expertise includes structural assessment of exterior components, construction specification development, forensic building investigations, and capital improvement project planning. His background in both engineering design and hands-on construction management allows him to bridge the gap between design intent and field execution, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and in accordance with industry standards.
He has extensive experience working with homeowner associations (HOAs), community managers, attorneys, and contractors, providing engineering reports, repair drawings, and construction administration services for large-scale renovation and rehabilitation projects. His approach emphasizes clear communication, defensible documentation, and alignment with applicable building codes and standards.
Mr. Lason is an active leader in the building inspection and engineering community. He currently serves as President of the Association of Building Inspection and Design Professionals (ABID) and has been a long-standing member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), where he has contributed as a speaker, published author, and committee leader.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cedarville University and maintains professional licensure across multiple states, supporting clients throughout the United States with specialized expertise in building envelope systems and exterior structural repairs.

David H. Dotson

P.E., R.S., B.I.E.

Dotson, P.E., R.S., B.I.E. – Owner of Criterium – Dotson Engineers, has a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and is a State of Texas Registered Professional Engineer in the structural discipline. Mr. Dotson has extensive experience in the inspection and evaluation of thousands of commercial and multifamily properties and provided architectural and structural design of residential, commercial, and church buildings. Mr. Dotson has also achieved the designation of Reserve Specialist (RS) through the Community Associations Institute, is a certified Building Inspection Engineer (BIE), and is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE).

Catherine Jones

Catherine is a seasoned incentive professional with over 30 years’ experience in the incentive industry and has worked closely with non-profit associations to grow membership, revolutionize offerings and to revitalize annual meetings.  In 2003, Catherine founded The Edventives Group to provide customized, turnkey meetings, incentives and travel programs for clients requiring customized solutions.  

Previous to her career in the incentive industry, Catherine attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  Catherine holds both a Master of Arts in History as well as a Master’s of Business Administration from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.

Robert Roop

Mr. Robert Roop, P.E., is the founder of Lockatong Engineering, Inc. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Villanova University. His work experience includes over 50 years of experience in facility and environmental engineering, investigations, technical feasibility studies, prototype/pilot plant design and evaluation, final design and installation of processes and commercialization of product, design of repairs, improvements, and enhancements to improve efficiency, occupant comfort and life extension in existing structures, indoor air quality investigation, design of HVAC system upgrades and maintenance programs, private residential, commercial (office, residential, light industrial) and institutional facilities such as schools and hospitals. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in NJ, PA, and NY. Mr. Roop is the Past President of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers and currently serves on the Council on Policy and Advocacy Committee for the National Society of Professional Engineers.

The Sigman Fund was established to honor the life and legacy of Theodore “Ted” Sigman, P.E., a respected leader, past president of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers, and a professional known for his ethics, integrity, and dedication to the field.

Through his will, Ted created a lasting gift to support the advancement of building inspection and engineering, ensuring that future generations benefit from the same commitment to excellence that defined his career.

Today, the Sigman Fund supports educational programming, student participation, professional development, and initiatives that strengthen the future of building inspection and design.
